Tattoo Removal

Laser Tattoo Removal Tailored to Your Tattoo

Laser Tattoo Removal is designed to gradually fade unwanted tattoo ink using targeted laser energy. It can be used for clients who want to remove a tattoo completely, lighten an existing tattoo before a cover-up, or improve the appearance of unwanted cosmetic tattooing where suitable.

At Janine Smith Aesthetics, Tattoo Removal begins with a consultation so Janine can assess the tattoo, your skin, the colours used, the age of the tattoo and your overall goals. Every tattoo responds differently, so the treatment plan will be tailored around what is realistic for your individual tattoo and skin type.

Laser Tattoo Removal is usually a gradual process, with several sessions often needed to achieve the best possible fading.

What to Expect During Your Tattoo Removal Treatment

Your Tattoo Removal journey will begin with a consultation. Janine will look at the tattoo you would like to treat and discuss factors such as the colours in the ink, how long you have had the tattoo, whether it was professionally applied, where it is on the body and whether you want full removal or lightening for a cover-up.

A patch test may be required before treatment begins. This allows the skin’s response to be checked and helps assess how the tattoo may react to the laser.

During treatment, laser energy is directed into the tattoo pigment. The laser works by breaking the ink into tiny particles, which the body then gradually processes over time. The sensation can feel sharp or hot, and the level of discomfort will vary depending on the area being treated, the tattoo and your individual sensitivity.

Laser Tattoo Removal is not instant. Most tattoos require a course of treatments, with time between appointments to allow the skin to heal and the body to clear the fragmented ink. Results can vary depending on the tattoo colour, depth, density, age, location and your skin type.

After treatment, the area may look red, swollen, tender, frosted, bruised or blistered. This can be a normal part of the healing process, but Janine will provide clear aftercare advice so you know how to care for the area properly. It is important not to pick, scratch or disturb the treated skin while it heals.

You may be advised to avoid tanning, sunbeds, fake tan, heat, swimming, saunas, heavy exercise and certain products around the treated area before and after treatment. SPF and careful sun protection are also important throughout the course.

Tattoo Removal is not suitable for everyone. Treatment may not be recommended if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, recently tanned, have an active skin infection, have certain medical conditions, are taking photosensitising medication or have a history of problematic scarring. Janine will assess suitability before treatment goes ahead.
